Donald C. Brace Memorial Lecture: The 54th Annual Donald C. Brace Memorial Lecture, co-hosted with the Copyright Society, was held on November 20, 2024. The lecture was given by Professor Jennifer E. Rothman on the topic of ‘Copyrighting People”.

2024 Paris IP Roundtable: The IP Institute team hosted a IP Roundtable in Paris at the A&O Shearman Office on November 6, 2024. The Roundtable, an invitation-only event, brought together 45-50 IP leaders from the judiciary, government, academia, and practitioners to discuss pressing and emerging issues in field of IP. The discussions were organized into dedicated sessions on trademarks, copyrights, and patents. To foster open and candid dialogue, the event was conducted under the Chatham House Rule.

Copyright & Technology Conference: The 15th Annual Copyright and Technology Conference, hosted the Copyright Society in association with Giant Steps, and the IP Institute was held on September 30, 2024.

Transatlantic Dialogue on Copyright and the Court of Justice of the European Union: The IP Institute team hosted this dialogue on February 1st 2024 at Fordham Law School. The discussion addressed the treatment of platform liability and injunctions against ISPs; new and upcoming EU tech regulations like the Digital Services Act and the AI Act; and developments in works of applied arts. It also covered the contrast between EU and U.S. regulations. The Dialogue will also introduce the publication of Eleonora Rosati’s new book, “Copyright and the Court of Justice of the European Union (Second Edition)”. The panel consists of Hugh Hansen serving as the moderator, alongside speakers: Robert Arcamona, Jane Ginsburg, Daryl Lim, William Patry and Eleonora Rosati.

Live Webinar – Intellectual Property & Artificial Intelligence: A Survival Guide: On Thursday, October 8, 2020, our Director, Hugh C. Hansen gave a lecture on Intellectual Property & Artificial Intelligence.

In his talk, he discusses legal realism in the context of the rise of AI and its increased use in the legal field. As AI may upend the traditional role of lawyers, he argues that lawyers should utilize legal realism to help predict how all the players will act and react in the legal setting, enabling lawyers to influence the outcomes of litigation.

Three in One: Global Patent Trials (CLE) This full-day CLE program of mock mini-trials provided an in depth and comprehensive analysis of the changing landscape of patent law and practice in Germany, Japan, and the United States of America. The event featured pre-eminent judges and experienced patent litigators from all three countries. Presentations were extremely insightful, and the program was concluded with a networking reception. Hosted by the Linn Inn Alliance and the Hon. William C. Conner American Inn of Court.
