John Richards
Senior AdvisorJohn Richards is Of Counsel to Ladas & Parry and Senior Advisor to the IP Institute. He has more than four decades of patent experience. John specializes in chemical and biochemical patent matters including drafting and prosecution of patent applications in these fields in the United States, Europe and abroad. John started work in the patent profession in the patent department of the British chemical company Albright & Wilson in 1966. He joined Ladas & Parry in 1973, becoming a partner in 1982. He is the general editor of Legal Aspects of Introducing Products to the United States (Kluwer 1988) and co-author of Intellectual Property and the Internal Market of the European Community (Graham & Trotman 1993) and has written numerous articles on various aspects of U.S., European and international patent law. John is an adjunct professor at Fordham University School of Law and at John Marshall Law School in Chicago. He has been identified as a New York Super Lawyer 2007-2010, 2012-present.

Soban Ahmed
Law FellowSoban Ahmed is a Law Fellow at the IP Institute. He received his LL.M. in Intellectual Property & Information Technology Law from the Fordham University of Law in 2018, where he focused on copyright, trademark and entertainment law. He also graduated with an LL.B. from the University of London in 2017, where he studied commercial and corporate law. During his LL.B., he did internships at Ameensons Enterprises, Surridge & Beecheno and Sattar & Sattar. In his free time, he enjoys playing cricket and has had the opportunity to represent his team on an international level.

Law FellowVipasa is a Law Fellow at the IP Institute and received an LL.M. in Fashion Law degree from Fordham University School of Law. Prior to working at the Institute, she interned for Anticounterfeiting and Unreal Campaign team at International Trademark Association. While pursuing her LL.M. degree at Fordham Law School, she externed as Business and Legal Affairs extern at AB World Media and Entertainment Consultancy. In addition, she served as a staff member at Fordham Intellectual Property, Media & Entertainment Law Journal. She was also the LL.M. representative for the Fordham Fashion Law Society and volunteers at Fashion Law Institute’s Pop-Up Clinics. She received her JD-equivalent with a specialization in Intellectual Property Law from NMIMS Kirit P. Mehta School of Law, Mumbai, India.

In addition to working at the Institute, Courtney is a Producer at Verizon Media.

Magdalena Berger
Affiliated FellowAs an Affiliated Fellow at the IP Institute. She has extensive experience in trademark searches, applications, enforcement and licensing for a wide variety of industries. In addition to her practice, Lena works closely with the Fordham IP Institute where she tracks emerging IP law issues, mentors students and teaches classes in U.S. and EU trademark law. Lena is admitted to practice in New York and in Germany. Lena graduated summa cum laude from Fordham University School of Law with an LL.M. in IP/IT Law, winning the Emily C. and John E. Hansen Award for the best student in the IP program. Prior to that Lena graduated from Universität Passau, Germany.

Sven Schonhofen
Affiliated FellowSven is an Affiliated Fellow for the IP Institute where his work focuses on trademark and copyright law. He is an associate in the Munich office of the international law firm Reed Smith and a member of the Intellectual Property, Information and Innovation Group. Before joining Reed Smith, he worked for a British law firm based in Munich. Sven studied law and business at Bayreuth University in Germany and obtained an LL.M. in Intellectual Property and Information Technology Law from Fordham Law School (with Honors). He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. degree and writing a thesis on publicity rights in Germany and the U.S. Sven publishes regularly on current issues in IP and IT law.

Research AssistantAdriana Munsie is currently a Research Assistant at the IP Institute while pursuing her JD degree at Fordham University School of Law. She earned her undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice from Florida International University. Apart from her role at the IP Institute, Adriana is a staff member on Fordham’s Intellectual Property, Media & Entertainment Law Journal. During his career in Turkey he provided consultancy on web3 transformations and intellectual property to global brands, drafted IP contracts for Turkish fashion brands, designers and content producers, published articles, hosted podcast episodes on IP within the body of Istanbul Fashion Law Institute and Brandcared company, and presented on legal frameworks of emerging technologies, at fashion and art industry events and seminars at various universities in Turkey with designers and lawyers. In his free time, he enjoys playing tennis and sailing.’
